Characteristics:

The donkey is a domesticated member of the horse family and has been used as a working animal for 5000 years.  Donkeys were first domesticated  around 3000 B.C. in Egypt and have since spread around the world.  Donkeys vary considerably in size depending on breed and management.  They come in variety of colours with distinctive large ears.  A male donkey is called a jack, a female donkey is a jennie and young donkey is called a foal.
